CUF Leganes Kings of Spain!

CUF Leganes won its 8th Spanish Championship title in a row and will be representing Sapin in the next EuroFloorball Cup Qualification. They won the final against AHK Madrid with 10-2 and continue to rule in Spain!

This has been the best ever floorball season in Spain with very tight matches and two newcomers arriving to the semifinals play-offs: Fenix San Lorenzo that lost in the play-offs against CUF Leganés and CUF Escorial that just missed the final after two extra time matches vs UHK Madrid.

Some words from Spain U19!

INNEBANDYPLANETEN got an exclusive report from the captain of Spains U19-Team in Germany.

Our experiences from Weisselfels, Germany and the U19 WFC!

Just before our last match in this championships I’d like to write some words about our participation and our thoughts here. For sure it has been great and although our results in these three matches haven´t been good, I feel really proud of my team and team mates. Maybe this sounds like we are not ambitious enough but if you think like that you are far from the truth. If you look to the statistics you can see even worse results and worse final scores than ours.

We have come here to play, do our best and get experience and we are not surprised with these results. If we would have better scores with some changes? Probably yes. But living this from the inside of the team, we have done the right thing. We are a mixture of young and last year U19 team and one of our goals is continue growing as team and as a group, continue learning and for sure this goal has been reached.

I don´t want to write about the lack of time we have had to prepare this, because it could sound like an excuse. It is what it is and we have accepted to come so no excuses, just follow your goals and do it the best you can, and this is what we have done. We have shown that until the last whistle that we’re fighting for each ball, never give up, no matter the score.

We are now playing our last match against Australia and we are focus on this to get the victor! Thank you! Pictures are from the Captain himself and also from the IFF and photographer Anja Thurow!

Semifinals ready in Spain!

INNEBANDYPLANETEN reporting… The Men´s regular season in Spain ended on Sunday and the playoff teams were decided. In the semi-finals CUF Leganés will meet Felix San Lorenzo and CUF Escorial will play against UHK Madrid.

The regular season was the most exciting ever and contained interesting matches all the way to the end. The qualifying teams to the playoffs were open until the last round. Until the last match there were four teams fighting over the fourth place, which was the last position to achieve a semi-final spot. Also the second place in the regular season was open until the last matches.

CUF Leganés won the regular season with just one draw in the whole season and will play semi-finals in their home arena (also the finals will be played in their arena, if CUF Leganés is qualified). CUF Leganés will play in the semi-finals against Fenix San Lorenzo. They reached the fourth position for the first time after a very good second round in the league.

CUF Escorial also qualified to the semi-finals for the first time and took the second position after a draw in yesterday´s match. They have only lost three matches this year, two against Leganés and one against Fuengirola. Therefore CUF Escorial played their best regular season ever. In the semi-finals CUF Escorial will meet UHK Madrid, who was placed third in the regular season.

The games will take place on Sat 2nd and Sun 3rd April. INNEBANDYPLANETEN looking forward…

Some youth info from Spain!

INNEBANDYPLANETEN is reporting sometimes about the highest leagues in Spain but we are going deeper. This time we have had a chat with a youth trainer of the club Escorial close to Madrid. This is his version about floorball in Spain.

Create and form Youth-schools is the best way to guarantee the growth of the sport in spain. And aswell it is to start and show that players even though they still are quite young when they reach the senior teams (and even to the national teams), you can tell that they have a 7-8 year long formation to become a great player.

CUF Escorial started to work with the youth several years ago and their success was not to wait! We have one or two teams participating in every cathegory from 6-7 year old kids to under 16! And with really good results right now.

I´ll give you a good example – The LIONS of Escorial.

The team was created 4 years ago And their short history is to follow: the first year of competition was the season 2007-2008 in the cathegory wich we call Benjamin (8 -9 years) and we ended first in the Madrid league. The next year 2008-2009 the cathegory was u-13 and we ended at second place.

The following season was even better, first in the league and with impressive numbers, as 20 games played, 19 games won, 282 goles scored compared to only 42 goles in our net! Good defense, huh?

This year we are still in the same competition and the kids are really doing fine. If we keep up the good work and enjoy as much as we can in every practice and every game, sure that we will have good results this year aswell and that the floorball in Spain will develop even further!

Luís Martínez Velasco
Coach and trainer for CUF Escorial youth

WOW! Thank you for the words from Spain. It will be interesting to follow you down there… Adios!

Hectic weekend in Spain!

Last weekend the national team of Spain had two other national teams visiting them over the weekend. The countries were Belgium and Austria and they played some national games… Spain had, except for their normal national team, another national team and one U-19 national team joining the 3 nations tournament against Belgium and Austria.

The first game was played already at friday evening between Belgium and Austria, a game were Belgium was a bit better and won with 8-5.

Saturday then was a hectic day. Spain A won against Spain B with 6-2 and proved to the other guys that they should play in the A-team. Next game was between Spain U19 against Austria. The young guys fought well but in the end, the result was 1-6 for Austria. The lack of experience showed itself during that game…

Spain B faced later Belgium and won with 3-1. A game were both teams played a really good defence. Then Spain A crushed Austria that might have been a bit tired from the other games and the last game between U19 and Belgium was won by Belgium with 8-3.

During the last day, the last game in the tournament was played. You could call it the final between Spain A and Belgium. The guys from Spain are too good to play here and won with 8-3 and the tournament finished like this;

1. Spain.
2. Belgium
3. Austria

A very good weekend for the national teams are over and we are now looking forward for the normal league to start again. We keep in touch and good luck in Spain!

Good start for Leganes ladies in Spain!

This weekend started also the highest league for ladies in Spain. Leganes, that also are a top team in the mens categorie, played the first game of the championship against Madrid on home field. After a really strong game they could easily win the first game with 14-1.

The other team that we keep contact with is Escorials that also is active in the mens category… The ladies played their first game ever against last years finalist Paracuellos. After a really strong first period they had 0-0 and maybe this could end up good. Sadly, Paracuellos pushed up the intensity in the game a bit and won the game with 0-3. Anyhow, this was a milestone for floorball in Spain and a sign that the floorball is growing!

In the mens category Leganes bet Adil with 2-4 where Leganes scored the first goal after just 7 second. Must be some kind of record in Spain. Escorial took their third straight win against ZSE by winning 4-3 in a really tight game. Now, after three played round, there are only two teams with 9 points. Leganes and Escorial. Keep on fighting boys and girls!
